Countless animals and plants from the rainforest are attracting attention as models for research and technical innovations. Ancient indigenous peoples impress with their knowledge of their environment and nature. Edible plants, which originally came from the tropics, are now an integral part of our diet. We want to raise awareness of these facts.
Raising awareness
What does Switzerland have to do with rainforests?
Switzerland imports large amounts of animal feed like soy, corn or wheat for national meat production. For the cultivation of this animal feed huge rainforest areas have been destroyed and forced indigenous people to move. Many consumer goods contain products from the rainforests. Therefore, Switzerland also bears a lot of responsibility for the rainforests.
In our daily life, we consume a considerable number of products from the rainforests. This includes products like bananas, coffee and meat, but also cosmetics and sweets. Hence, it is important to know that our own consumer behaviour has a big impact on rainforests.
Our contributions to raising awareness
Through raising awareness, we show you the fascination surrounding the rainforest ecosystem, explain the importance of rainforests for the preservation of biological diversity, climate protection and the local population, and show what every individual can do to contribute to the protection of rainforests.
- We provide you with regular updates on rainforest facts.
- We are present at various events and show you the link between our consumer behaviour and the destruction of the rainforest. We show you that we are all dependent on intact rainforest ecosystems.
- We offer lectures and talks on rainforests and rainforest protection for schools, universities, communities, museums etc. It is important to us that each and every one of us knows the personal possibilities for the preservation of rainforests.
